New Youth Sailing School Policies for 2019:
- In an attempt to get as many kids as possible a chance to sail with us, you may only sign up for ONE session of sailing per child at a time. If there are openings available after June 1 and you would like more sessions, please indicate that on your registration form and we will begin to fill open spaces after June 1 with 2-session sailors.
- All students at all levels above Beginner will be assessed for sailing skills by the instructor staff during the first week of classes. BCB reserves the right to move students up or down to the class appropriate for their skills, regardless of age or previous experience.
- Resident Discounts for year-round full-time Bourne resident youth will be, starting in 2019, only available for THREE SESSIONS of any combination of Beginner, Advanced Beginner, or Intermediate classes.
Parent/Child Class: One evening per week for four weeks, 5:30 PM till about 7 PM, starting Thursday July 11 through Thursday August 1, tuition $100 per pair. This is a once a week sailing class to give parents a chance to sail and learn with their child. It is open to people with no or some sailing experience. Depending on conditions each class will consist of between 1-2 hours of on land and on water training learning the basics of water safety, sail boat parts and terms, simple sail evolutions and point of sail. Each boat will have one experienced sailor/ instructor and up to 3 parent/ child pairs.
Mummichogs: (July 1-5 (no class July 4, tuition is adjusted), July 8-12, July 29-Aug 2, Aug 5-9 9:00 AM-11:30 AM) Mummichugs will focus on water safety, marine science, and fun. Students will be introduced to safe boating practices, learn about the animals that live in the water around them, and do traditional camp activities. Tuition: $150 per week. Suggested Ages: 6-8. Maximum age completed second grade.
Beginner Sailing: (6/24-7/19 or 7/22-8/16, 8:30 AM-12:00) Students will have 4 mornings per week of sailing instruction in Opti Prams, and 1 morning of our marine biology themed Belly Biology program. Each student will learn to sail their own boat from the earliest time possible, which affords the steepest learning curve and best results. Tuition: $660. Discounted Tuition for full-time, year-round Bourne residents of $360. Prerequisite: Open to all youth who have completed second grade and up.
Advanced Beginner Sailing: (6/24-7/19 or 7/22-8/16, 8:30 AM-12:00) Students will have 4 mornings per week of sailing instruction in Prams, and 1 morning of Belly Biology. This course is designed for students who have sailed before, but are not yet ready for the more advanced techniques taught in Intermediate sailing. Tuition: $660. Discounted Tuition for full-time, year-round Bourne residents of $460. Prerequisite: completion of Beginner sailing or equivalent.
Intermediate Sailing: (6/24-7/19 or 7/22-8/16, 1:00 to 4:30 PM) Students will have 4 afternoons per week of sailing instruction in Prams, and 1 afternoon of Belly Biology. This course is designed to advance students skills to prepare them for the varied boats and techniques in higher classes. Tuition: $660. Discounted Tuition for full-time, year-round Bourne residents of $560. Prerequisite: completion of Advanced Beginner sailing or equivalent.
Adventures in Sailing: (6/24-7/19 or 7/22-8/16, 1:00 to 4:30 PM). Students will sail a variety of boats including Prams, windsurfers, Lasers and Bullseyes. The Adventurers come in to the class with a good background of sailing skills which allows them to focus on transferring those skills to new challenges like sailing to new and different destinations. Tuition: $ 660 per 4-week session. Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediates or equivalent.
Intro to Racing: (6/24-7/19 or 7/22-8/16, 1:00 to 4:30 PM). Geared towards students who are interested in trying sailboat racing this class will teach racing basics with fun, friendly competition. Tuition: $660 per four-week session. Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediates or equivalent plus instructor recommendation.
Sailapalooza: (Daily, by arrangement, July 8-Aug 9, 1:00-4:30 PM). Open to all comers, regardless of their ability. Classes will focus on fun and will accommodate students of varying skills. Tuition: $ 30 per day. Prerequisite: Open to all youth ages 10 and up.
Instructor in Training: By invitation only. Open to upper level sailors with an interest in teaching. All IITs MUST TAKE AN UPPER LEVEL SAILING COURSE AT BCB OR BUZZARDS SAILING SCHOOL. Contact email@example.com for more information or to enroll.
